iPhone 5s and Apple Carplay

I just recently purchased a 2016 VW Passat SEL and its equipped with Apple Car Play. There are times folks would text me and the banner would display/drop down from the top of the touch screen. I would press the banner and the system would read me the text, however there are moments where(and its been frequent) the banner would drop down, I press for the system to read the text and it would get hung on "Reading......" and the system never reads the text..

Has this happened to anyone else? if so what remedies were used to fix this? Please advise. Any perspective is appreciated.
