Q: Can I authenticate from Windows computer to an El Capitan server using a Mac Server network account?

Hello,

I am trying to access shared files which are on my El Capitan server running Mac Server 5.1.5 using an Open Directory account from a Windows 7 client.

I was able to do this all day every day in OS 10.6.8 Server.

Now it seems that with the ultra-simplified options in Mac Server, I am able to enable Windows File Sharing for any LOCAL account (local to the server not in the OD) but am not able to enable WFS for any Open Directory account.

I am hoping I am missing something simple because our environment is based on users being able to log in on their Windows desktop and still be able to access their Documents folder on the Mac server as well as group shares.

It doesn't make sense that I would have to create a local account on the server with the exact same name and password and then grant access to the network account's home folders to the local account.  I should be able to authenticate from Windows with a network account.

Any help would be great!

Thanks
