Q: stolen iphone security

Hello! I am Dhawal and I am from India.

Yesterday I lost my Iphone 6 (64Gb) during train journey. Someone found it and swtiched it off.

There are strong chances that he or she might try to sell it in some mobile shop.

my Iphone is in locked condition with 6 digit passcode and fingerprint scan.

Nobody knows the passcode except me.

I want to know if somebody tries to unlock it...what chances are there that Iphone wouldnt be unlocked and be safe?

I also want to know weather there is some third party or computer application through which its security can be breached?

as I have Important data in it! and I dont want it to get disclosed.

Please help.

Thanks.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2, 64Gb space grey

There is no way to breach the encryption on the phone without the passcode. It's been far too long since college for me to remember off the top of my head how to calculate the probability of randomly guessing a 6 digit passcode within 10 tries.

Did you enable Find My iPhone on iCloud?

If you did that invokes the Activation Lock and there is no way for them to break into with that enabled.

    Hello Dhawal,

Do you remember if you have your Find My iPhone turned on in your phone? if you had it turned on, you can check the status of your phone in iCloud.com and then sign in with your apple id and password and click on find my iPhone section, you'll be able to see where your phone is located if its on and under wifi.

if you had find my iPhone turned on, there will be an activation lock on your phone with your apple id. meaning, even if someone finds your phone and tries to wipe it off  on the setup assistant it will ask that "This iPhone is linked with an apple id, please enter the password for that apple id"

now, if you have never find my iPhone turned on, unfortunately there is no other way you will be able to know whats going on even if it was locked with a passcode since wiping the phone by putting it into recovery mode and restoring bypasses the passcode lock

I did enable it on Icloud and put it in Lost mode.

but as the device is offline the lost mode status is pending.

And one more concerning thing is I dont exactly remember If I signed in into "find my Iphone" in the device itself.

I mean I did signed in long back but dont know its exact status currently.

    what should I do now?

Hey thanks a lot for your information.

I did turned on "Find My Iphone" long back but I dont remember its exact status now. If its signed IN or Signed Out.

Now you said that ""wiping the phone by putting it into recovery mode and restoring bypasses the passcode lock""

Is it possible to bypass the passcode through recovery mode and restoring?

If some one does that will the data be wiped out (erased)  from the device?
