Q: Hotmail

I changed by email password through Hotmail directly.  I  went on my macbook 10.10 .1 upgraded recently, to mail preferences and saved the new password.  I'm able to receive mail but not send it.  I keep getting a message when I put in the new pw that the pop up asks for that it can't be verified.  What to heck it going on now?  HELP

    Hey there, really4me!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. From the information you shared in your post, I see that you're unable to send e-mail through the Mail app after changing your password with Hotmail. When you try, the Mail app prompts for your password, then indicates it cannot be verified. I use Mail every day as my primary form of communication, so I definitely understand how important it is to get that working as expected again.

To help, I would recommend going through all the steps in the article linked below to get started.

If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac

The section of that article titled "If Mail keeps asking for your email password" links to the following article, which I suggest you should also make sure to check out.

If Mail on your Mac keeps asking for your password

    Cheers!

Neither of you links helped my problem.  It did address what is happening but did not give me an answer.  I do not have a gmail issues.  I reset my hotmail password on this divide, not some other.  It lets me receive mail so my acct. if on offline either.  I just can not send the mail from hotmail as it has it is not verified.  If I go directly to hotmail, that issue is not present.  It only is happening in my mail.  Anything else I might try?

There is a good chance you still have your old password saved in your Keychain.

    Quit Mail App.

Navigate to your ‘Keychain Access’ app in your ‘Utilities’ folder, and launch it.

You may have to Click the Lock “Icon” to Unlock your Keychain with your admin password.

In the ‘Login’ keychain choices, look for any entries that say ‘Hotmail’.

You can also use the search box in the top right of the Keychain Access window to search.

You will probably find some old outdated Hotmail login keychains.

    Delete these old Keychain entries.

After you have deleted these old Keychain entries, go to the ‘Keychain Access’ top Menu bar,

and chose ‘Keychain First Aid’. Run the “Repair” option (it will prompt you for password).

Now launch email, and try a test send.

This time it will probably prompt you to enter the correct password, rather than just outright rejecting.

Enter correct password, and you will probably have an option to Save this correct password.

    P.S.:

Double-check that you have entered the correct new password in:

Mail > Accounts (choose problematic account) > Password (for that Hotmail account)…
