Q: iPhone 5 swollen battery

Noticed that there is a bulge on screen of my iPhone the day before.

I visited Apple store in Waterloo today to get some help, however all I got is recommendation of paying for a new iPhone since I bought my phone more than 3 years ago.

Apple "suggests" me to pay $349 to get another iPhone 5.

This battery issue happened completely out of my control and Apple doesn't want to take any responsibility for its device.

I have to use it for a while until I got a new device from any other vendor but apple.

Hope it doesn't explodes in my pocket or on my face before I got another phone.

Anyone else have similar problem?

I understand your frustration, having grown up in an era where products were made to last. However—particularly when it comes to computer technology—a 2-year old item is teetering on becoming obsolete.

My iPhone 5s was less than 3 years old when it suddenly stopped holding its charge. A visit to the Apple store informed me that the battery had begun to swell (not even noticeably to a non-discerning eye such as mine). However, the good news was that Apple would replace my 5s but a brand new (not rebuilt) 5s for $79.95. I took that offer since the original phone no longer had a trade-in value. And now I have a new phone (all info was transferred seamlessly right at the Apple store via iCloud backup) that holds the charge just fine. I now will be more apt to think about trading in the device before its useful life expires.

This is just the reality of life in the cyberworld!
