Q: iPhone 4S audio problem on iOS 9.3.2 when connected to power

Hello Support Community,

Im having a strange issue on my 4S running iOS 9.3.2 when connected to power. When connected to power Google Maps and also Apple Maps will starts repeating itself and won't stop repeating a direction command when on speaker. It actually sounds exactly like broken record. Usually only way to get it to stop is to unplug from power source. Sometimes it will stop by quitting app but not usually. This is very annoying if I need to be plugged in while driving somewhere and using a maps app. Also does same thing in spotlight search when using audio search. From there the dinging noise won't stop either unless unplugged. Im using an Apple approved car charger BTW and only original Apple chargers in my home, same problem. This is now the second warranty replacement phone from Apple, the last one I exchanged for having exact same issue (this one is less than month old). I'm starting to think its a software bug issue now and not hardware. It only does the error in certain applications and not others such as music or others. Its only in apps that need to start and stop sound automatically. I have tried all the normal stuff, hard restart and deleting Google Maps app and just fooled around with it. Im going to try a full restore before heading to Apple store. If anyone else has had same issue and has a fix for this problem that would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to waste time in Apple store just to have them give me another phone that will probably manifest same issue. I even went so far as to update the phone to Beta software version iOS 9.3.3 but problem still manifested itself.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Hello mojo design,

Thank you for being part of the Apple Community!

It is my understanding you are experiencing audio that repeats itself while using certain apps.  This would certainly make using those apps an unpleasant experience.

You need to isolate the problem into either a hardware issue or a software issue.  To do this, you are going to want to restore the iPhone as new when you go and restore your phone.  Since this will erase all the content on the iPhone be sure to create a backup first. Backup instructions can be found here:

How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes.

Once you have a backup, restore the iPhone as new, following these steps:

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups.

Be sure to set up your device as a new device rather than restore the device from the backup.  Once the iPhone is restored as new, before adding any additional Apps, test the iPhone and see if the issue remains. If the audio is still repeating, this would indicate a hardware issue and the best option would be to have the iPhone check out by an authorized service provider or at an Apple Retail Store.  You can find the closest one by looking here:

    Find Locations.

If the problem is no longer occurring, then go ahead and restore the backup using those same instructions:

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups.

This time, be sure to use the Restore your device instructions.

If the problem starts again, this would indicate that there is something being loaded from the backup that is causing the issue.  If that happens, you would need to set up as new again, and then install the apps that you need back onto the phone, testing after each installation until you determine what App is causing the issue.

    Cheers!

    Hello,

Thanks for the advice on doing a restore. I was however able to avoid the hassle of restoring the phone and starting from scratch to solve my issue. I just went to settings and reset all settings and that solved my audio issue completely. I have not had time to test things out yet but I suspect that it is a bug associated with Siri, since "Hey Siri" only works with when phone is connected to power on the iPhone 4S. As I mentioned the audio issue also presented itself in voice search within spotlight.  I will turn on Siri again and do some testing soon.

    Thanks,

    Jesse

    Hello

I have exactly the same issue on my iPhone 4S. It is for sure related with iOS 9.3.2 and Siri. I'm using maps every day while driving (phone is conneced to power source at this time). Everything worked fine. Problem appeared after I made update to iOS 9.3.2. Turning off Siri solved the problem. I had to turn it off completely. Disabling only "Hey Siri" functionality didn't help. Now it starts to reproduce every time I turn on Siri.

    Thanks
