Q: Incredibly poor performance while syncing photos from iCloud on Windows 10
Hello,
I received an invite to view a shared photo stream from my sibling, to see photos of their kids. I have downloaded and installed iCloud 5.2 on my Windows 10 desktop and navigated over to the iCloud folders that appeared in Windows Explorer.
I'm getting awful performance in the iCloud sync'd folders. The window is completely unresponsive, taking minutes to process any action on the window (scroll, navigate back, or any other action). I think its trying to load the entire shared album, but I can't tell because I can only see a few photos at a time before it freezes and I have to close the window.
I have a few questions about the behavior of this application:
* Is iCloud storing the photos to my hard drive or downloading them from the cloud each time I view them?
If they aren't stored locally, that would explain the performance issues, but it seems like very unfortunate application behavior.
* Did you test this application on windows 10 at all? Did you test large (i.e. hundreds of photos) albums?
* Do you have any tips for windows users who are experiencing performance issues?
Please do not suggest that my system specs are not high enough, or that my network is too slow. I have gigabit internet and very generous system specs.
