OS X: About System Information and System Profiler - Apple Support
Are you saying it worked before?
What if you connected it to the connections now used by the SuperDrive?

Jun 29, 2016 8:33 PM in response to Randy Deckerby Johnb-one,★Helpfulit could be that the drive is bad (slim chance), but maybe not. the only thing I could suggest right now is check the jumpers on the back of the drive. Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but it's preferred to set both drives to cable select. other than that, make sure that both drives have their data and power cables plugged in all the way. There might be a bit of a strap over the data cables which needs to be released. You can fit two drives in there, it's a bit of a struggle, but it can be done, but it might involve some wiggling. apart from that, maybe do the usual, zap pram, reset smc, you may have to turn off drive goes to sleep in Energy saver preferences, depending on the drive.. otherwise, give IIIaass' suggestions a try

Jun 29, 2016 8:32 PM in response to lllaassby Randy Decker,Thanks for your help. Both my Superdrive and my Blu-Ray drive are now running. Here's what I did: I removed the sled holding both drives. I carefully reseated both connectors. Now after restarting the Superdrive was recognized. So next I reinstalled Toast 14 with Blu-Ray support. One more restart and voilà the Blue Ray drive is also recognized. I'm using it at the moment to back up my music.

Jun 29, 2016 8:29 PM in response to Johnb-oneby Randy Decker,Thanks! BTW both drives easily fit in the sled. I don't think cable select was an option. Once more, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Jun 29, 2016 11:56 PM in response to Randy Deckerby Randy Decker,So, I thought I had solved this issue. Apparently I have not. After reinstalling Toast 14 I was able to use the Blu-Ray drive. However, after quitting Toast the drive was no longer recognized. I launched Toast again and the Blu-Ray drive was not recognized. So at least I did get one good use out of the drive.
