Q: Aperture 3.6.: imports disappear and other problems

Hallo,

I am using Aperture 3.6.

I have a general media library with all private photos and I now created a second media library for the photos from my business. So far I entered into the last one 7000 photos distributed in 450 projects.

MY PROBLEM: at this stage the program started to create the following problems:

1. when you import photos it appearingly does so (also showing the message that the import has been done), but then the project can nowhere be found. IT SIMPLY DISAPPEARS. At the same time the program indicates that these images have been registered by the system as it recognizes them as "duplicates" when you want to repeat the import.

2. You cannot create new projects from the menu.

Once you try no such project appears. The program just jumps to a project already existing and opens it.

3. The same is true to folders.

I re-installed Aperture, but got the same results.

Interesting enough, I do not have these problems with my general library that exists already for a long time (on the same computer) and has been converted to the Aperture 3.6 format and which contains about 50,000 images with 1200 projects.

My technical data: iMac Fusion drive 3,5 GHz Intel Core 7, 8 GB RAM, El Capitan 10.11.5.

Thank you for any advice you could provide.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

    Hi

I have ran into the same problem as you before. How I solved this problem is I imported photos and projects parts by parts. Do not import all files at once time. I guess it is software bug from Apple its-self.

If possible you can separate all your photos by yearly(Or by project, name what ever you want to call). This move will make you opening each library more smoothly.

Pls try it first. If still happened pls leave a message.

Have you already tried the Aperture Library First Aid tools on the second library with the import problems?

See this Manual page: Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library

Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library

In the rare event that your Aperture database becomes corrupted or the files within it have permissions issues, Aperture provides a few methods for reconstituting your Aperture library and the file relationships within it.

To repair or rebuild your Aperture library

    1. Close Aperture, if it’s open.
    2. Locate the Aperture library you want to fix, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library. The Aperture Library First Aid dialog appears.

    3. In the Aperture Library First Aid dialog, do one of the following:
      • To repair the permissions of the files within your Aperture library: Select Repairing Permissions. This option should be used when Aperture can’t access some of the image files within the database or Aperture is unable to open the library itself. The Repairing Permissions option reviews each file in your Aperture library and sets the read and write access of each file where appropriate, allowing Aperture to access the files again.Note: This option does not relocate referenced images whose master image files are offline. For more information about reconnecting offline images, see Reconnecting Missing or Offline Referenced Images.
      • To repair your Aperture library file: Select Repair Database. This is the first option you should use if you believe there is something wrong with the Aperture library other than image file access issues.
      • To rebuild your database from scratch: Click Rebuild Database. This option should be used as your last measure as it can be time-consuming for large image libraries. If you have tried repairing your database, and the issues you are encountering with your Aperture library still persist, you should use the Rebuild Database option. Aperture examines the library’s entire database and rebuilds each component until it reconstitutes your original Aperture library.
    4. Depending on your selection, click Repair or Rebuild.

Aperture either fixes file permissions within the library or repairs or rebuilds the library, and then opens the application workspace.
