Downloading

Hello Apple Community!


First things, Im new to the Apple community so if i screwed something up please tell me! But, heres my question. When i go to download OSX El Capitan the buttion just says PAUSE in grayed out form with Waiting on the left of it, also grayed out. Please help! I have no idea what to do and i have waited to see if the new OSX is worth it and the wait is over.

it could be your app store cache needs to be deleted and you should begin a new download. In many cases connecting your mac directly to a wired router and suspending any other downloading or streaming from other device on your network will improve the time needed to complete.

Deleting the cache will erase any unfinished progress of downloads that have not completed, it will not affect any application that has completed downloading.


reboot into safe mode

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support


close the App Store application

Open terminal from Macintosh HD/Utilities/Terminal

type

open $TMPDIR../C/

then delete the folder

com.apple.appstore.


open App Store and begin the download


before updating it is prudent to have a backup in place before proceeding

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support
