Are files saved on my desktop part of my Mac HD?

Question

I accidentally trashed a folder with lots of files from my desktop.

Trash was deleted before I realized it!

Using Data Rescue 4 to recover files and wonder if I should be recovering the hard drive or the Apple HDD?

I'm not a techie! Please help!

Items on your desktop a›re actually in a special folder in your user area called "desktop".
