AirPlay 'an error occurred loading this content: try again later

hi

i have an ATV 3 (I think, the,one before the latest release) and I cannot AirPlay to it from any device, I have an iPad Pro 9.7" and an iPhone 6 get the same message when trying to AirPlay from both (on the tv not the device). I can see the atv on the device on the AirPlay menu but once I select it then hit play again I get the error message.

I have restarted it, reset it, soft reboot, everything I can think of all devices and the ATV are uptodate nothing is working. So I am having to,watch things on my device instead of my 32" tv

any suggestions?

iPod touch, iOS 4.3.2, iOS 4.3.3

Are ATV and iPad on the same WiFi network?

Are you using any type of VPN, unblocker, or special DNS service? Remember that, when you AirPlay (not mirroring) from your device, the media URL is sent to ATV and it connects directly to the server. ATV is saying that it could not connect to the server. If everything else is normal, check the DNS setting for your device's WiFi connection, and make sure ATV is using the same. This would normally be Automatic on device and ATV, and Automatic on the router internet connection, so all clients are using the internet provider's nameservers. But people sometimes select special nameservers for reasons of their own. Since the devices work and ATV does not, maybe there's some mixup in name servers.

Finally, if you're using the OpenDNS service, it implements parental controls that affect your ability to access certain sources. Are you able to AirPlay anything, e.g. a Vimeo video?

Yes, it's the VPN. The ATV is not on the VPN. You throw it the URL for the video, and it tries to connect through its network interface, which fails. Music works because it uses the original implementation of AirPlay, where the track is actually downloaded to the device, and sent from device to ATV. That would be tough for video, because of the much higher data rate. You may be able to mirror the screen, but if you try to make the player full-screen, it switches from mirroring to normal AirPlay, and it will fail. Not ideal.
