Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Based on the information you provided, I am understanding the Music app on your iPhone 5s quits unexpectedly when you try to play anything. I listen to music from my iPhone every day, so I know it's important for the app to stay open. I've got some troubleshooting you can try that may help.
- Quit the Music app and re-open it. Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Restart your iPhone. Once it's on again, tap the Music app to open it and try to play some music. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Back up your iPhone, then restore it to factory settings using iTunes on a computer. The article linked below will guide you through creating a backup in iTunes or iCloud.
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Once you have a backup created, use the following article to restore the iPhone back to factory settings.
Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
- After you restore to factory settings, set the iPhone up as a new device (without restoring your backup, at least temporarily). You can sign into iCloud and the iTunes and App Store with your Apple ID during the new device set up, and can then download your past purchases from the iTunes Store, or access Apple Music (if you're a member) to test playing content.
Happy listening!
