How to best use Download originals to this mac

After using optimized storage since the beginning of PHOTOS I now selected Down load originals to this mac for reasons of back up.

I see no difference, or a progress bar of the photos being downloaded.

This is what I and seeing at the moment

seems that there are pics uploading to iCloud? which will cause duplicates in the iCloud PHOTOS?

After an extensive phone support with a senior tech he advised I do this and if I need to delete any photos to do it in the Cloud and NOT not he Mac or the iPhone,

My question is what and when and where will these downloaded originals to this Mac be placed? In Photos.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), GarageBand 10.1.2

Hey Jojo,

You won't see a progress bar of the downloads, it happens in the background. If you open Photos and select a picture to view, you'll notice it doesn't have to be downloaded from iCloud first.

For the running upload, I wouldn't be concerned. It's possible that there was some mass of photos that were unable to be uploaded for one reason or another, most likely an error with your iCloud account. When It's finished, I'd open Photos and check if there are any duplicates. Most likely, there won't be.

No that will not createe duplicates

BUT since nothing downloads until the upload is complete we need to find out what is going on - it is not uploading at all or uploading very slowly? - wheck tomorrow and see what change has occured and post back

Thanks for the quick response, the Senior Apple Tech via phone advise me to look for duplicates in PHOTOS in iCloud and delete from there then then will delete across my mac/PHOTOS as well as my iPhone 6. In fact, he advised I don't delete from anyplace OTHER than in the cloud especially when auto back up happens at night/via wifi,

I have followed his advice to that topic and see that it is so and much easier to keep continuity using that method than deleting from PHOTOS on the MAC or not he PHONE and expecting them to all match, which they weren't doing. So, I am noticing a slowing of the MAC at the moment maybe due to the downloading of photos.

Again I say to myself, how can I know all this stuff that is why I come to the community to get assistance.

So uploading is complete at this moment and I just received another response to this issue that I will view now, again thank you.

Will do as advised, I will check the cloud PHOTOS and the Mac PHOTOS and the phone PHOTOS and see if all is synced,
