I have a macbook, iPad and iPhone and airdrop works perfectly using cellular data. However, when these devices are connected via my home wifi, airdrop stops working. It seems that something is either incorrectly set up on my router or there are some ports blocked which airdrop requires to work. Airplay and internet and everything else works fine via the router - just not airdrop.
any ideas?

Airdrop creates its own ad hoc network; however, for it to work, you must have WiFi enabled. This screenshot is from my iMac:
On the iPad, you must pull up Control Center and make sure that your iPad can be seen by everyone.
Airdrop doesn't use cellular data at all, and neither does your MacBoo. Airdrop uses your WiFi network with the connection made using low power Bluetooth. Please explain how you set it up, and why you think it uses cellular data.
When all devices are on the wifi network I cannot use airdrop. The moment I switch my dsl router off, I can use airdrop between the devices. However, when I switch my wifi router on again and all the devices connect, airdrops stops to work.
So I assume it works then via Bluetooth (and not cellular data). The wifi connection or wifi router seems to be hindering airdrop to work.
Yes, Bluetooth and wifi are both on on all my devices. As I have said, airdrop is working fine when the devices are not in the vicinity of my wifi network, but as soon as all these devices come within reach of the wifi network and connects to it, airdrop stops to work.
Sorry but I don't know enough about troubleshooting WiFi issues to be much more help. You might start with this user tip:
Do you have BlueTooth turned enabled on both devices? Although you don't pair devices over BT to use Airdrop, it still must be on for the feature to work.
Then the problem must lie with your wifi network. As noted above, Airdrop only works over WiFi. So, Airdrop is working over WiFi, just not yours.
Start with rebooting your router.

I have already rebooted it multiple times. I have also checked all settings, but can't see anything suspicious...
Just for kicks, try resetting the network settings on your iOS devices. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Network Settings. You'll lose any saved Wifi passwords but that's all.
I have tried it on my iPhone and iPad and reconnected again to wifi network - but still same issue.
