Q: Outlook for Mac Active Directory password does not sync

I use my personal Mac to access corporate emails. Every month the Active Directory password is required to be changed on the Windows AD laptop.

Upon setting up a new password for Windows AD, the Outlook for Mac AD password is out of sync. On the last few occasions, I have deleted the keychain (resetting it to default) and that is a painful exercise as it removes all my other passwords in Safari, Mail client and all other applications.

So while Outlook works fine after deleting keychain list and resetting it, is there a better option to delete any specific keychains or update passwords elsewhere.

As a process, I do update the: 1. Internet Passwords; and 2. Outlook preferences password, however none of these actions update the AD password for Outlook.

Please help!!

Thanks.

Hello, I may not fully understand your issue, but if you are trying to use app specific passwords, try this:

If you have any trouble, feel free to contact me or Apple Support. Have a good day!

The issue is specific to Outlook for Mac not syncing passwords for changed passwords on Active Directory that occur on a periodic basis.

Appreciate your inputs, but it does not solve this issue. Thanks.

There is no provision in Outlook for the Mac to "sync" the password for your AD account. There is nothing for it to sync it with... It's not like Outlook for Windows, which simply passes your AD credentials from Windows to the Exchange server.

There has to be a solution as any AD password changes need to flow across to the Outlook for Mac so that one can continue to use the Outlook Mail. It works after keychain has been deleted completed and new credentials get created.

My question is how to address the AD password changes on Exchange server without having to delete keychain (reseting to factory default).

    Thanks.

Tools>Accounts. You can set the password there. There is no reason to modify the keychain to change the password in Outlook.

As for 'synchronizing' the password, talk to Microsoft about that. It's their product.

As mentioned earlier, I'm already changing those passwords in the system preference and accounts.

It is something both Apple and MSoft need to address, why have a Office / outlook product for Mac that is sold that is not compatible with exchange server, a very basic piece of requirement. For some Apple new products iMac's you get a free Office for Mac software!

Your response are well intended, however do nothing to solve my problem thus seeking the community support here.

    Thanks.

Why is it something Apple has to address? Outlook is not an Apple product. go complain to Microsoft.

No one in this community can fix a design issue that's inherent to a Microsoft product.
