how to block zip files on email

Hi Guys

After much searching i can't really find an answer to this......

we get loads of spam everyday with .zip files with obviously nasty .exe files inside!

I don't know anybody that uses .zip anymore what with cloud sharing etc so i simply want to send any email contains a .zip to the bin?

anybody have any idea how I can do this?

Thanks

While it is still common to receive malware hidden inside zip files the overwhelming majority of this is Windows only malware which will not affect a Mac. I can also say that it is becoming increasingly common to receive scam emails with Dropbox or similar links in them and the files downloaded via such links are once again Windows malware.

While the Mail rule suggested by dialabrain should automatically move emails with zip attachments to the trash a slightly different variation on this which might be more appropriate would be to move them to the Junk folder. It is also possible on some Mail server systems to configure a rule in the mail server itself to block emails with selected types of attachments. We for example use Kerio Connect Mail server and this has this type of feature and as standard blocks .exe, .com, .bat, .dll, .vbs, .scr, .app, .sh, etc. and we could if we chose add .zip as well.

Thanks i will ask our mailbox provider if that can be done as that would be an ace permanent fix.

I don't mind downloading .zip from reputable sites, i just don't trust emails with .zip as we get loads! Scammers are using .xml files too it just needs one of us to accidentally open these!

Understand that these are mostly windows scams but i do use parallels and run win7 on my mac as our accounts software is win only. maybe over paranoid i know but it won't be long before we start seeing mac intrusive code being sent out from these cowboys

thanks for your help
