Q: OSX El Capitan slowing down

My desktop Mac seems to be slowing down.

I also see much beachballing when switching apps.

Even switching tabs in Safari lags.

Here's my EtreCheck report.

The reported lack of RAM is new to me, I had not seen that before.

I would like some help to get my Mac back up to speed.

What I suggest to do is

    shut down

remove all external devices except mouse and keyboard

    reboot into safe mode

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

    and test the system

if the system appears to behave then reboot normally and test the external devices one by one

if not you check the integrity of your hard drive using disk utility and run diagnostics on your hardware

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

    Thanks Jimmy

Currently running in safe mode, everything is even slower than before and more beachballing.

I'm reading in on the links you kindly provided.

Will use Apple Hardware Test (or Apple Diagnostics) and report back.

    Hi,

While in Safe Mode inconsistencies in the iPhoto database were found; database was rebuilt by the system.

    I disabled login items.

Ran Disk Utility First Aid on iMac HD and got " the system appears to be OK" response.

Ran DU FirstAid on HDD and got:

    Screen Shot 2016-06-30 at 12.30.44.png

(btw my HD is not partitioned)

    Shut down.

Ran Apple Diagnostics, got "no issues found" response.

Rebooted as normal, took the system a little longer though.

    Ran EtreCheck again:

I'm not worried about the backup disk, time Machine is running fine

Computer is still slow and lagging, also my Wi-Fi is hick-ing...

Keeping an eye on Activity Monitor, neither the Memory Pressure or Energy Impact show for the slowness.

Also zero swap and CPU load not worringly high, just peaking when opening apps.

    What else can I do?

Thanks, I have done that, makes no difference, just the pages in Safari load a little slower, no further bearing on system performance.
