Q: Stand minutes
Things that get me an elusive stand minute:
1. Sitting on the toilet
2. Playing with my hair
3. Driving my car
4. Riding passenger on the back of a motorcycle in a traffic jam
5. Reading in my comfy chair
Things that do not get me an elusive stand minute:
1. Standing
2. Walking slowly
3. Walking quickly
4. Walking while waving my arms around frantically trying to get my stand minute
5. Jumping jacks
6. Moving for an hour straight
7. Anything active
I have reset my watch. I have tried various tightness and positions. I have cleaned the sensors. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and it's so frustrating. I love my watch but greatly dislike the stand function. I'd ignore it but...circle addiction is real.
Advice?

Hi
For the purpose of crediting the hourly Stand achievement, your watch aims to identify when you have stood up and moved around for at least one minute during that hour. Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to identify movement, so arm movement equivalent to changing from a seated to a standing position followed by a minute's walk around with your arms swinging naturally should help to register this.
It may help to calibrate your watch (instructions via the link below). Calibration enables your watch to more accurately estimate various fitness and activity-related results. It does this by teaching your watch how your arm moves when you are walking and/or running at different speeds.
It may first help to reset any existing calibration data and then start this process afresh:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > Motion & Fitness > tap on Reset Calibration Data.
Instructions: Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support
Activity estimations also depend on your personal information. To check that this has been entered accurately (and to update it over time):
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Health > Edit (upper-right).
