Q: fCPX pro video codex install

I need to import an mxf file into FCPX. Tried to install Pro Video Formats via software update. FCP still couldn't read the file. Checked update again and then hit the loop everyone has posted about. Tried all the fixes, ending up with copying the Quicktime folder out (official fix). I used the apple link to the latest version of the update; the files installed, I copied back in my other files. Restarted. Still doesn't work!! Update still sitting in my software updates area. Grr.....Any ideas/workarounds? Really need to see this footage!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Watching these threads for several months has led me to conclude there are changes being made to various camera and Avid software that has modified the MXF content in some way but no one has told Apple or Apple's just busy doing other stuff and has not kept up. You don't say where your files originate but I'd suggest you try exporting them directly from that source, if you can, to Quicktime or 422. The metadata from the MXF file may or may not be preserved if you go around the long way.

Sorry the fix isn't easy and direct but please post back if you find something that works for you so others will have a solution.

Thanks for your reply. The file is a telecine from a lab - I can view it in VLC but FCPX doesn't even see the file - it stays greyed out. I would think that points to the install not working rather than an issue with the file, as it hasn't even tried to open it yet? Although the file type does say 'Max Collective" which sounds strange....Wanted to sort this out for another time and so I could get at my files without having to wait for a resend! Software update also still thinks it hasn't installed...sigh....

Does the file even open with Quicktime Player? If it does, press command-I to open the Movie Inspector and post a screenshot.

Otherwise, do a similar command-I in VLC to open "Media Information". Post a screenshot of Codec Details.
