Q: I don't have Keynote

I have a Macbook from mid 2012 with most recent IOS update (10.11.5). I assume it's supposed to come with Keynote - and I'm not eligible for the Up-to-Date program. I tried contacting apple support but for some reason they keep telling me that isn't possible and to "try again." Does anyone know how else I could get it (without having to pay 20$)?

In your App Store section of previous purchase history, is there any indication

that you may have bought or had a supported product with Keynote or other

    Mac Apps there?

If the computer you bought had been previously owned and any associated

update to later version apps had been used by that owner, the option may

not have been transferable or available to a second owner; it would have

been tied to the first owner's AppleID and their App Store.

Is the computer was new to you and then upgraded to a later OS X, then it

may be possible that an earlier Mac App may be available. For that to happen

there would be conditions. -- Although that would be nice, it does sound like

you may not have the options available; short of a new purchase of Keynote.

    • Keynote - Mac Apps - Apple Support:

    The original iWorks included a spreadsheet, word processor, & keynote;

then they were separated. Older versions won't work, either. Not sure if

there are any third-party quality options; or shareware, freeware, etc.

So you may have to buy the new version for this latest OS X. I'm using an older

Mac OS X that shipped with my most recent purchase; & haven't upgraded yet.

Some features will be lost to me in the later system. Not all upgrades are great.

Sometimes Apple applications are pre-installed on the Mac, otherwise they are available to install from the Mac App Store in the applications folder.

Log in with your Apple username and password and go the the Purchased tab:

Keynote version 6 series is available at no cost if you downloaded and installed the app within the first 12 months after purchase of a new Mac (or a refurbished Mac purchased direct from Apple). After that period you will have to pay.
