Graphic Card for Mac Pro 2008

I've read some dated discussions on graphics card compatibility for Mac Pro 2008 models. I was interested if any of the modern cards will work. There is a lot of buzz about the new Radeon RX 480 cards for being fast and cost effective. Will that be compatible? Looking for 4gb capacity or greater for reasonable pricing (sub $500).
