Q: Nothing on my timeline

I am using Final Cut pro 10.

I am a very beginner. I moved around my libraries and other stuff to different folders and now there's nothing on my timelime. Please help, I edited a month and all my projects have empty timeline,

Please give more specific information on what you moved. For example, did you go inside the library?

Okay. My mac is only 128gb. So I started getting notification that my macintosh is almost full. So I transferred the fcp folders to my external hard discs. And arranged them according to my will

Deleting, recovering back from trash... I did alot of stupid work today as I got too crazy. Please help! I went deep inside the library and played every move there.

But Nothing is gone. I have everything in my hard disc but in a messy way.

It's very risky to move folders from a FCP X library. Whether the library can be reconstructed is uncertain.

Please open the external drive where these folders are located in the Finder and in column view. Take a screen shot of the contents and post it so we can better understand. (If you have any items that you don't want to show, open the screen shot in Preview and cover their info with an annotation tool.)

edit: Just to add, when freeing up HD space, in the Finder, the library should be moved intact. There are also ways to move individual events from within the application interface that are not risky.

G.O.D.S. is my project for a bikers gang documentary. It was almost 80% completed. I have cache, backups, and rest two folders. Is that's all needed for this project?

Other project is "vanshaj", it's a wedding film which also has similar content. When I try to open G.O.D.S. from yesterday's backup, I get this - Screen Shot 2016-06-30 at 9.25.09 PM.png

I clicked on "save" and it's asking me for a location now. I hope that helps you understand what am going through.

    Thanks

This looks like a mess. I;m seeing a library called Vanshak_reception with a date/time stamp, which means it's come from a backup.

There's supposed to a a library named GODS, but it's been moved.

Don't know what GODS Docu is, or where it is, but it shouldn't have backups, original or optimized media in it if it's a project, nor should it have a cache folder.

Maybe you should show us what's in FCP in the library browser and the event browser that is supposed to hold the project.

I went to one file in my trash which looked like "GODS20160629_0046_GMT+5:30". I restored it back to my hard disc and opened it. I got the library file back on fcp but the timeline is empty.

That's your library. That has your event and your project. Just all the media is missing. Been moved or modified in some way that the application can no longer locate it. Again this is a backup library. Not sure why you're always using backups and not the original libraries.

I am very new to FCP and just can't figure out much. I have two folders with the media files. I just need to figure out how these files and folders have to be placed and where. A structure for them maybe.

First, stop moving things. No video application is going to work properly when the media and its files are moving.

Second, try to relink the media. Not sure this will work if the files have been altered. Select the event and use File>Relink File. Point the application to the first file it's looking for. You might have to do this individually, but hopefully not.
