Keynote and other apps from iPhone 6s 64gb disappeared after I restored from my old phone

I just purchased and activated an iPhone 6s 64GB. It had a number of apps on it I wanted (e.g., Keynote) that disappeared when I restored the stuff from my old phone. When I check the App Store, those apps require me to pay to download. Any way that I can get them back on the phone?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.2

Apps are not part of backups. After you restore from a backup, they need to be re-downloaded to the new phone. This normally happens automatically, but it sounds like you disrupter or stopped this from completing.

To re-download the apps for free, log into the App Store using the Apple ID originally used to download/purchase them, then navigate to the Purchases tab.

Hello. Sorry to hear about the problem that you are experiencing. Apple has a support article that addresses the very issue you are having. Below, I will list the instructions from the article, as well as a link to the article for future reference.

If you purchased a device with iOS 9 or later that's 32 GB or larger, these Apple apps are already installed:

  • Pages
  • Numbers
  • Keynote
  • iTunes U
  • iMovie
  • GarageBand*

*To download GarageBand for free, you need a device that was activated or purchased on or after September 1, 2014.

The first time you open one of these apps, sign in with your Apple ID. If you forgot your Apple ID, we can help you find it.

If you purchased a device with iOS 9 or later that's 16 GB or smaller, or if you updated your existing device to iOS 9 or later, you can download the apps for free. Follow these steps:

One of two things will happen when you tap the "Buy" button

1) You will be prompted to enter your password, or to use Touch ID, to complete the purchase. If this happens, do NOT proceed, as you will be charged for the apps.

2) You will see a prompt stating that you have already purchased the content, followed by a question about whether or not you wish to discuss wnload the content again for free. If you see this prompt, you are safe to proceed and download the app without having to worry about being charged for the content.

If you still feel uncomfortable about following my suggestions, you should schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple retail store

OK, so here's how I went in the end. I check my password requirement in settings and set it to password for every purchase and no password for free downloads. Then I did what you said - I tapped the price for Keynote and then buy. It started downloading without asking for a password and without a prepurchased message. Tried it on each of the others and the same thing. Then tried a few apps I don't own and it asked for a password every time. I also checked my account and no charges. long way of saying you were right and thanks!!
