Q: Facebook notifications on Macbook Air

Two weeks ago I bought a Macbook Air, and when I added my Facebook account to the computer, notifications started working instantly, and in notification center I could see the sender and a preview of the message/notification just like on my phone, but suddenly this has stopped working and the only notification I can see is "New Message" and no details. I've tried removing and adding my Facebook account again, resetting the notification settings, and restarting the computer. Is there anything I can do to get the notifications back the way they were?

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Welcome to Apple Support Communities, emgrace010, and congratulations on your MacBook Air!

I'm understanding that you were getting Facebook notifications at first but they stopped working haven't worked since even after signing out and back in. I really enjoy using notifications so I can decide whether I need to respond right away or not. I'll be glad to help.

Before any troubleshooting, I like to remind people to have a fresh backup of their personal data. I know you haven't had your MacBook Air very long, but, if you've imported or created anything important on it, I recommend you're sure it's safe. -- Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

Next, try each step and test your Facebook notifications.

The first thing to try is start up your Mac in Safe Mode. Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. -- Starting up in safe mode

If Notifications for Facebook still isn't working, test with another user account to see if the problem is in your account or system-wide. -- How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

After you've logged into the test user account, sign into Facebook and see if your notifications are working as they should. If they are, go back to your account and test. If it works in the test account but not in yours, scroll down to "If an issue happens in only one user account" and follow the steps there.

If Facebook notifications aren't working in the test user either, that means the problem is with the software. Reinstalling the operating system will fix that. -- How to reinstall OS X on your Mac

    Have a great day!

Open safari > safari preferences > notifications > check the box allow websites to ask for permission to send push notifications .

you can follow apple articles : Safari 9 (El Capitan): Manage website notifications

Sorry if this gets your hopes up if you still haven't sorted this problem. But I am suffering from the same thing and have tried everything to fix it. Have you had any luck?

I too have tried everything anyone has suggested and I've come to the conclusion it must be an issue that Facebook has and not Apple's software, since reinstalling an earlier version of the OS would fix a software glitch. I guess we just wait and hope facebook can fix it?
