Freestyle Libre and NFC

I want to connect a freestyle libre to an iphone. Freestyle Libre is an bloodsugarlevel meter which connect to a phone through NFC.

SAmsung made it possible for their phones. What about Apple?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2

Maybe apple should find a solution for the manage of every device as is the world leader company and not simply answer to the target marketing...doing this will lose customers!

Do you run one of the most valuable companies in the world? No, I didn't think so. Therefore, I'm disinclined to pay any attention to your advice on marketing.

Best of luck.

Hey, I am Diabetic too! Recently I got FreeStyle Libre and I have iPhone! I found a solution but it cost around 100$. Still cheaper to change the phone. So there is a new badge It sticks on top of your sensor ( on your arm ) it's very small like the sensor. and it sends all data to its iOS application. the company site is: www.ambrosiasys.com

Download LinkBluCon APP on your iOS device, link and it will do the rest just like android version.

PS: There is 2 version, 1 is single use like the sensor you change it every 14 days and it cost around 60$ and its waterproof.

The second version is lifetime use, No waterproof and you just change the battery. Both will update your Glucose every 5 mins to your Phone. Hope it helped guys.

Cheers

All iPhones since the iPhone 6 have an NFC controller in them. The NFC controller was originally used to support NFC based payment transactions for Apple Pay. As a part of iOS 11, Apple added Core NFC which is an iOS SDK for apps to be able to read NDEF encoded NFC tags. The ability to read NFC tags with an iPhone is only supported by the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 and iPhone X; the iPhone 6 can NOT read NFC tags with iOS 11. Note that no iPhone can write NFC tags with iOS 11. The implications of this are that all NFC tags to be used by an iPhone must have previously been NDEF encoded. Blank NFC tags purchased from Amazon will not work until they have been encoded. The GoToTags Store uses the GoToTags NFC Encoder software to encode NFC tags for customers. Also, an app is required to read NFC tags. iOS does not have native support for handling NDEF encoded NFC tags in the way that Android does with their tag dispatch system. The GoToTags iPhone App can read NFC tags and scan barcodes to perform device actions.

Disclaimer, GoToTags is a commercial NFC company. However, we are an expert with NFC and iOS.

You normally get a freestyle libre scanner with the system, I would use that rather than the NFC built into a phone, even with Samsung phones there are reports of people reducing the life of their sensors by scanning the sensor using a handset... However I dont think this is an Apple issue, its more a request you may want to make with Abbott who make the Freestyle Libre...

I think the best solution for the Libre really is LibreAlarm, coupled with a Sony Smartwatch 3, and Xdrip, the watch collects information from the sensor it transmits it to your phone and xdrip shows you a cool graph which is updated i think every 10 to 20 minutes, so its scanning you automatically through the day.. Unfortunately that is all Android only

(Sorry this is not Anti Apple, so please do not delete my post, I am just trying to help the user and better diabetes control could save lives, so please do not delete)

You think that you can change quickly and autorise the NFC for Freestyle Libre?

I'm diabetic, I like Apple but if you don't allow, I think that I will must change my Apple (Ipod, Iphone, Mac, Watch,...) for Samsung... .

That would be very dificult for me to change for samsung and lots of costs but easy management of my diabetes is more important.

I hope that you can change very quickly.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. You are not addressing Apple here. Submit any feedback you have to Apple here:

How did you track your glucose levels before smartphones? Presumably, if cost is an issue, you could still continue to do that.

Nobody responding here works for Apple so whether we can change or not doesn't count. Have you contacted Freestyle to see if they can make a Bluetooth version of their meter? Or are there other manufacturers who do so? I doubt Apple is going to open the security enclave/NFC to anything other than Apple Pay anytime in the near future. And I don't care if you switch to Samsung, if that works better for you go for it.

The Freestyle libre is a new style of glucose meter.

It's a new solution for diabetic. This solution in Europe is take in insurance charge. It's a super solution for diabetic, that's petty that apple don't open the NFC solution for the utilisation without payement. I hope that Apple change, there is lots of diabetic in USA and in the World. The Diabetic land is the 3rd biggest land in the World.
