I have a MacBook Pro that they put in a new HD when I do a restore with the system software on the drive, which is Lion. Every time it errors at can't download additional components. I don't have the orginial software because they lost it. Do I need to purchase the software or how can I get an OS on this MacBook so it will work? I need any help I can get at this time.

- Try resetting the SMC:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

- Did you format/erase the new drive using Disk Utility that is included in Internet Recovery?

- Try powering off and then back on your router and modem?

- What symptoms led you to replace the HD?

Maybe you had problems beside the HD.

Has the new HDD been formatted in Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? That is essential!

Do you have the original HDD and is it functional? If so, you may clone the old HDD to the new one.

Have you tried to get into Internet recovery? Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys and you should get a display such as this:

By following the directions, you will be connected to the Apple servers and be able to install the original OSX that the MBP came with, Lion (10.7).

You will need a solid Internet connection and it may be time consuming.

A 2012 MBP came with Lion OSX (10.7) installed and came with no disks, so there is nothing to lose. You do not need to purchase the software because in theory, if you follow the instructions that I posted for Internet recovery, you should be able to reinstall the OSX from the Apple servers.

You have not addressed some very pertinent questions that I asked in my prior post. Understanding that Macs are new for you, consider making an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. They can troubleshoot the MBP and install the OSX and it will be done for FREE.

Ciao.
