Q: What do I do if my old mac has a 500gb harddrive and the new one a 256gb one?

If my old Macbook Pro has a 500GB drive, and the new one has a 256Gb drive, what do I do? I thought that i had to have an equal or larger storage unit in the new laptop.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), model mid 2012 4GB RAM

Get rid of what you don't need by backing it up to another drive. Or remove the old drive from the old computer, put it into an external USB 3.0 enclosure, then connect it to your new computer. Only transfer the minimum of what you need to the new computer such as often-used applications. Or you can go to OWC and see if you can upgrade the new computer's SSD to a larger one.

Oops, forgot. You can exchange the new one for another new one with a 500 GB SSD within 14 days from your date of purchase - no questions asked.

If this really is a brand new computer do user replacements of the SSD invalidate the warranty?
