iTunes says I have 10GB Free on my iPhone - Not True ??

I have an iPhone 6 plus. I connect it to my Mac and then look in iTunes under the iPhone Summary tab, and then look at the bottom where there is a colored bar showing the storage space allocation. Here it indicates that I have 9.56 GB of FREE.

However, when I check my iPhone storage usage in settings, I have less than 1GB free. What gives ??

Thanks,

Gordon

Or you can go to Settings / General / Storage & iCloud Usage, tap on Manage Storage in the topmost Storage block and see the amount used, the amount available and a rundown of the space consumed by each app, which includes both what the code takes up as well as that of any documents and data associated with it. I tend to believe more in what the phone tells me rather that what iTunes thinks the phone told it.

At the bottom of the screenshot, you see the colored bar. At the right of this bar, there is a large grey area, where iTunes is indicating that I have about 10 GB free. on my iPhone.

On the iPhone go to settings > General > Storage&iCloud Usage. This is where I see less than 1GB available. ( It is the same as Settings>General> About that you have suggested. The numbers are the same.)

I see the colored bar. When you are in Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage, I'm guessing that you are not in iCloud Storage, correct?

What troubleshooting have you tried?

So your belief is that I should ignore what iTunes is telling me about the available storage.

It makes syncing a pain because iTunes keeps trying the fill in the fantom available space with music tracks and then I get message that some tracks could not be synced. ( because there is not enough space avail )

Is there no way of resetting iTunes/iPhone to fix this issue ?

Standard user troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore to factory; testing after each step. The following support documents describe each step. The only difference is that reset has been renamed Forced Restart, and is in the first support document.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
