Warranty goes with the device not the owner. If the device is still under warranty, then the warranty would apply to the device, and if you need warranty service, you would be able to get it. To find out if the device is still under warranty, you can take and enter the serial number here, https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ and it will tell you if the device is still covered by the warranty and/or Apple Care.

If the seller does not follow the steps in the link provided by Chris, you will have a problem. However, if he does, then you should be fine.

If the product is no longer covered by the warranty, then whatever problem comes up will be your financial responsibility. Note that Apple does not generally "repair" ipads - they may exchange it for a refurbished one.

Speaking of refurbished, you might be interested in checking out Apple's online refurbished store: you can save money and will have a regular 1 year warranty just like a new one. Their refurbs generally act and look like brand new. It would give you the warranty which you won't get with a used product.

Here is a link to all the refurbs iPads available right now:

If this is a first time purchase of an iPad and you trust the seller has removed the iPad activation lock and unregistered the iPad from his/her Apple ID, then purchase.

Otherwise, purchase a brand new iPad from Apple or go online and purchase a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple's online refurbished store where you can purchase an iPad at reduced pricing with the same Apple warranties as a brand new, non-refurbished iPad.

You can even still get/pay for an additional year of AppleCare+ (purchase within 90 days of original iPad purchase date) to extend the warranty of a refurbished iPad to two years!

Good Luck!
