I do not get a notification on mail

Question

I do not get a notification on mail

I can send and receive mail but when I receive new mail I do not get a notification on the desktop or on the doc. I am using a early 2015 Mac Book Pro with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

Open mail app > mail preferences > general > check for new messages choose automatically .

Open system preferences > notifications > uncheck the box turn on do not disturb from .....AM to ....PM .
