Q: Why can't I install software using disc share

I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro with retina and it doesn't have a disc drive, so I'm disc sharing with my iMac. However, whenever I'm trying to install software it keeps giving me an error that says "You can't open the application because it may be damaged or incomplete." However, it works just fine when I open it on my iMac. Can you not install software remotely like that? I really didn't want to spend more money on an external disc drive I'll almost never use.
