Taking down website published by iWeb

Just wondering if anyone could help with this....

I have a website I haven't done anything with for years. It was originally made and published using iWeb. A couple macbooks and a hard drive issue later and i no longer have the domain name or any information about the website other than that I can get to the website and look at it. I need to take the website down and do not know how to do this. I have put iWeb (iLife 11) back on the macbook but I can't find anyway to get the website back on to iWeb as I don't have the domain name etc.

Have limited knowledge about computers and website building/publishing so any information is welcome. I am running El Capitain if that helps.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Well, if you are still looking at the site online, then of course you have the domain name, because you need to enter the url/domain name to get to the website itself, so yes, you have that.

To be able to open a site in iWeb what you need is the domain.sites file and if you don't have this file, then you are out of luck and the only thing you can do is to re-build your site from scratch. iWeb has no import facility, so cannot import any files, except the iWeb files, which are you domain.sites files that you no longer have.

To remove your site and take it down, you need to go to your web host where you registered your domain name for your site and where you took out your hosting - surely you must know the name of your web host? You need to download an ftp programme such as Cyberduck or something similar that will allow you to connect to your hosting files and once you have done this and you go into your file directory using Cyberduck, you can remove your old iWeb files and then start again with a new website.

To build a new website I would suggest that you look into usingEverWeb, which is an iWeb replacement. iWeb has not been supported for at least the last 4 years now and will only become less compatible the longer it goes on and with further updates. Move now to newer and better software and re-build your site.
