In need of serious help

I was in windows bootcamp when the volume on my macbook pro suddenly had a red x at the side of the volume icon. I haven't installed any updates or made any modifications to the computer, it just suddenly stopped working after waking the macbook up from resting mode.

I've tried resetting the PRAM, but I don't hear any chime at all when I start up my computer, no matter how long I wait/how many times the computer re-restarts itself.

There also seem to be no internal speakers detected when I go into system preferences in Os x. For both input and output the computer detects 0 devices. The Macbook speakers in both windows bootcamp and Os x seem to not detect an audio driver and I'm not in the position to pay for a repair where I am now.

Thanks so much in advance for any help!!

Howdy, skido10!

I understand that you're unable to use audio on your Mac, both when using Boot Camp and when using OS X. It's important to be able to hear audio! I'd love to take a look with you.

You were right to try a reset to the PRAM/NVRAM. As the issue continues, I'd suggest that you try a reset to the System Management Controller, then reset the PRAM/NVRAM once more. Here are those steps:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac

If the above steps don't resolve the issue and you suspect a hardware issue may be to blame, Apple Diagnostics might clarify things. Learn how to use Apple Diagnostics on this page:

Using Apple Diagnostics

Take care!

Heyy darren.s

Thanks for your concerns. I have done a macbook self-diagnostics and it concluded that there is no real issue with anything in the laptop but the battery charge which I think everyone has. I have tried the PRAM and the SMC and nothing about the audio has changed. The laptop still detects no audio device. Is there anyway I can download and reinstall the audio drivers because I feel like that will solve the problem since it seems to not detect any audio device.

skido10,

Thanks for the update on the Apple Diagnostic results! Before jumping into reinstalling, I would suggest two items.

First, be sure that the software on your Mac is up to date. Here's how to check:

Update the software on your Mac

If the issue isn't resolved, use safe mode to see if an extension may be stopping your Mac from working as expected. Safe mode prevents some automatic processes from starting. Here's how to use safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

If you wish to reinstall important components of OS X, you may need to reinstall OS X fully. While the reinstall process isn't meant to delete data, it's a good idea to make a Time Machine backup before this step:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac

If you are successful in using safe mode, you may not need to complete the above steps. Be sure to reply with any results from your testing.

Cheers!

Tanks for your reply sarah_1

I tried everything you mentioned and unfortunately it didn't work for me, I bet it will work for others but I think my case is so bizarre that it won't work, plus two technicians I've gone to visit ( one of them license and authorized by apple) suggested that it was a hardware problem and ill need to buy a new motherboard to fix it. I'm in Nigeria so I guess I have to find an apple store so that they can repair it under my warranty. Thanks very much for your concern and

take care.
