Q: I get the error: " Share "(null)" to Flickr" when uploading photos in my library to Flickr

When i try to upload photos to Flickr through Photo version 1.5 (370.42.0), I get the error:  " Share "(null)" to Flickr".  Right below it is says "Publishing - About 5 seconds".  This status will stay there and will never change.

This does not happen every time, but once it happens, the only way I can get it to work again is to reboot.  Even then, sometimes it happens on the first attempt.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is there a log file that i can look at to get more info?

The whole reason I'm doing this is to archive all of my photos on Flickr.  However, the .NEF RAW files do not automatically upload so I have to upload them 99 photos at a time in Photo.

I am doing this on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2013 - 3.2 Ghz with 8 GB RAM) OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.5

    Hi there Cobyflier,

Thanks so much for coming to the Apple Support Community with your question about uploading photos to Flickr using Photos.  I love being able to share my photos to different services directly through the Photos app, so let's see what can be done to resolve this.

Whenever I run into an issue with an app not working properly, I go with the basics.  Let's start up in Safe Mode first:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

In particular we are looking to see this:

If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode

If an issue doesn't happen when your Mac is started in safe mode, try restarting again without pressing any keys at startup. If the issue appears to be resolved when you start up normally, it was possibly caused by a cache or a directory issue with your startup disk that safe mode fixed.

If you restart your Mac normally and an issue comes back when you reach your desktop, try disabling any login items that automatically open when you log in.

If the uploading issue goes away after starting up in Safe Mode then it was possibly a cache or directory issue.  If the uploading issue persists, try disabling login items as referenced above.  If this still doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend seeing if the uploading issue happens on all users or just the user account you're using.  I have an article below that can show you how to test it:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If the issue persists on another account, back up your Mac and then reinstall OS X.  To back up your Mac and reinstall:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac

Best wishes and hope you're able to share photos to Flickr soon!
