Q: Help getting rid of old AppleID on iPhone 6 and iPad2

I recently changed my AppleID, but my old ID is still on my iPhone and iPad--I can't update anything. I know I have to sign out of all my devices using iCloud to update them.

However, my iPhone and iPad still use my old ID and ask for my old password to sign out--as recommended to use my new AppleID on other devices -- I have tried several of what I thought were my old passwords, but they don't work.   My old ID is no longer recognized as an AppleID, so I can't change the password.  How do I get around this?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2, Also iPad2

Login to iCloud with the old Apple ID, navigate to the Settings page and click on the device you wish to disassociate from your Apple ID. Click on the blue X that appears next to that device's name, as shown in the example picture below:

Repeat this process for all devices you wish to remove.

OK, when you say you "changed" your Apple ID, how, exactly, did you change it? Did you go to Apple - My Apple ID and simply EDIT the old Apple ID email address to a new one? Or did you set up a brand new Apple Account for your new ID?

You have also indicated that you are being asked for your old ID to update things. Do you meant to update Apps? If so, and if you set up a brand new Apple Account, then you will always have to sign your old ID in to update apps purchased with that old ID, since it is a totally separate Apple Account. Media it tied to the Apple account it is purchased under.

And I'm not sure where iCloud is coming in to play here, so could you clarify the first question posed above, then we can discuss the other issues you may be encountering.

    Cheers,

Thanks! This checklist is exactly what I needed--    I did edit my AppleID back to my old AppleID; this way, I was able to change to  a new password. Having changed to a new password (I had forgotten the old one), I was able to sign out of all my devices using the old AppleID. Finally, I edited my AppleID to a new one (that was my intention from the beginning) and followed the checklist to get back on track. Thanks again!

Thanks for your answer.  After looking again at the Apple website, I decided to edit my AppleID back to the old one. That way, I was able to change to a passowrd I could remember. Then, I used the old AppleID to sign out of all my devices (as required when editing an AppleID).  After that, I was able to edit my AppleID (I didn't create a new AppleID, but I understand what you wrote about bought software tied to each account.).  About iCloud:  When I went to '''settings' and I want to sign out of iCloud, I did get a request for AppleID password to turn off 'Find My iPhone. That is in the iCloud account.  This got resolved too. Thanks again for your answer!
