Hi
When I notate music for viola and select viola in the staff style in the layout - I get two staves separating the viola by middle C hence the notes above middle C record in the higher viola staff and the notes below go into the other viola staff - like piano notation. How do I get it to simply be one viola staff displaying whatever notes I play correctly within the range of a viola? Did that make sense?

With the score having focus - Select the Viola staff style from the style rop down list.
If you still get two staves for some reason.... Then just delete the second voice in the viola staff style.....
via layout-open staff styles....
Go to the viola staff style.
Highlight one of the two voices at the bottom and press delete...
Only do this if selecting the viola staff style - didn't work and still shows two staves...
Hi thanks for your speedy response. Unfortunately when I try to highlight the top viola stave both are linked so I cannot proceed with this apparent solution. Any more thoughts?

Yes that is correct and how it works select one of those staves both will be selected and then change the staff style to cello or to a single staff system
Ok if your Viola staff style has two staves assigned to it - here is how you remove the lower one....
In the staff style window when I select the Viola at the top, the number of staves for that staff style are defined at the bottom.
I highlight the last line by clicking on it so it turns blue - then press delete. See attached...
