Q: iPhone with a Hyundai Santa Fe

I Was at a dealership this afternoon looking at a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The salesman let me pair my phone with the car, and I saw it downloading my contacts.

I Tried using the hands free to play the music on my phone, but the car couldn't find it. I then plugged my phone in with a cable, and the same thing.

But, the car does show my music when it's plugged in and I use the touchscreen.

Shouldnt the car recognize my voice command to play the music, or does the car have to download my music first?

Thanks

    Greetings, Bladehntr!

It appears that you were trying to test our CarPlay feature at a dealership with a new Hyundai Santa Fe.  Being able to pair your iPhone with your vehicle is definitely a really cool feature that I use myself daily, so I can understand your excitement about checking it out.  I would be happy to help in any way I can!

From what I can see on both our website and the specifications page for the Hyundai Santa Fe, it does not appear that CarPlay is available for that model yet.  For your reference, here are the pages I checked out to find this information:

CarPlay - Available Models - Apple

    Apple CarPlay | HyundaiUSA.com

From what I can see, the feature is available on the Elantra right now (according to Hyundai).  Our site also lists the Sonata and the IONIQ.  While the hands-free features of CarPlay don't seem to be available at this time, that doesn't mean you can't still use your iPhone in your car!  The iPhone pairs with the car's audio system (as you found out yourself) via Bluetooth or a USB cable.  After doing that, you should be able to play music using your phone's app interface (whether that is our Music app, or a third-party music player).  This document details using your phone's audio features with a vehicle:

Hope you're having a great holiday weekend!

    HI

    Thanks or the answer.

I did notice that the car downloaded my contacts via Bluetooth, but not the music.

LIke I said earlier, when the phone is plugged in, the infotainment system shows it.

Hopefully when CarPlay becomes available, the hands free option will work.

    Thanks
