Add existing Photoshop Elements as extension?

I own Photoshop Elements 12 (latest version), but cannot use it as a Photos "extension" editor. As I understand, I can buy another Photoshop Elements 12 from Apple Apps, and it will work as an extension. That does not make sense.... How can I add my existing and licensed Photoshop Elements to Photos as an extension?

Thank you. - Andy

Extensions are part of the application. You can only use external editors from Photos, if these applications are fully compatible with El Capitan and provide an editing extension.

Many external editors can be called directly from Photos if you purchase and install for 99cents the Photos Editing extension "External Editors". This extension can call older applications that do not yet offer editing extensions. See this user tip: External Editors in Photos Are Here

Photoshop Elements 12 itself does not yet offer Photo editing Extensions at all. I just looked at the newer version Photoshop Elements 14 for OS X 10.9.5 or newer, and even this version does not yet provide photo editing extensions. You can only call it using the "External Editors" photo editing extensions.

A list of applications with Photo editing extensions is here: Photo Editing Extensions for Photos for Mac
