Q: Storage of photos

Hi all,

I have some albums in the Photos app, on my iMac, to save storage space in my Macbook (where there aren't any).

Today I notised one thing, even though as explained,  I have no photos stored in my Macbook, still 34,1 gb photos stored in it.

How can this be? is my photos stored in both computers or how does it work?

iMac and iPad Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Are you using any iCloud services for your photos?  My Photo Stream?  iCloud Photo Library?

Yes, the photos are in both places (otherwise they would not sync)

Well, I thought I was using iCloud but I'm apparently not.

Anyone out there who have a link to somewhere that explains how to sync the two through iCloud?

If you want to sync your photos on the two Macs using iCloud look at this document:  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204264

It explains how to use iCloud Photo Library.

But iCloud Photo Library is a syncing service.  It will try to make the Photo Libraries identical on both macs and in iCloud.  If your objective is to save storage using iCloud, use the "Optimize Storage" option on your MacBook. Then mostly smaller, optimized versions of your photos will be stored locally.
