On your iPhone go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn off iCloud Photo Library.
If you had Optimize Photos turned on in either of the above (on the Settings > iCloud > Photos screen on your iPhone or in Photos Preferences on your Mac) you will need to Download Originals first.

Jul 3, 2016 1:26 PM in response to FoxFifthby loveopera,Thank you. I assume that if I have the iCloud photo library turned off on both the mac and the iPad no pictures will be deleted and they also would not be copied from one device to another? I am using a different method of backing up photos, so didn't feel I needed to use the photo library. Thanks again, Loveopera
