Q: How to move from iPhoto and keep keywords, albums?

Also, I can't tell, what version of OS X do I need to run Photos? Does it work on 10.8 or 10.9, and if so, where to get it - is it sold separately or comes with the OS?

You'l need to upgrade your system to El Capitan, 10.11.5 in order to get the new Photos app. It has more editing capability than iPhoto. There are some differences between the two which are described in this user tip: Photos 1.5 vs iPhoto 9.6.1: Features and Capabilities.

If you want to continue to use iPhoto be aware that it is no longer supported by Apple and there will be no more updates to it. Also the Apple Print Products Store no longer will allow purchases thru iPhoto. You will need, however, to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App store.
