Q: final cut pro x I am seeing very long file pathnames when zipping the "movies" folder.
I am watching the log file while I am zipping the "Movies" folder. In the file are some pathnames more than 200 characters long a typical line is: "adding: movies/FinalCut.fcpbundle/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache/.fcpcache" for about 300 characters and then the pathname of the file being backed up. ".fcpbundle" is an alias but why so many of them? I am concerned because I am trying to back my data before going to El Capitan. This is a solution looking for a problem because I am not having trouble using FCPX. I'm new to OSX (I ran XP for about 800 years). 8^0). Thanks for the info. I promise to get a Time Machine.
Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Welcome to the family. I've never watched logs being written, sounds like watching grass grow.
"XP" is a Windows product?
Protecting your data before upgrading your OS on the Mac is a bit different Than on PCs. I'd not be zipping up archives of critical data, especially FCPX bundles.. Strongly urge you to go to Costco, Best Buy, or your Apple Store and get a drive capable of holding a clone of your drive and clone it Using any of several free cloning utilities (or even Disk Utility).
A Simple search of the webs will return dozens of articles on how to prepare your Mac for an OS upgradE.
