My battery for my mac book pro a1286 is not holding a charge as long anymore. Where can I go to get a new battery?

First of all: the batteries of the 'unibody' Macs are not easy replaceable. So when in doubt, find yourself a repair shop that has experience with MacBooks.

A A1286 MBP is any 15" model from late 2008 through 2012. More specific information would have been helpful.
As a general rule, I must disagree with my colleague Esquared, because replacing a battery in a unibody MBP is quite easy. Care does have to be required when disconnecting and connecting the battery. You must use a non-conductive pry bar. Also a #0 Triwing driver will be needed.
There are only two non-Apple brands that I can recommend based on experience from trusted users as well as my own, NuPower (from OWC) and Anker. Avoid bargains from ebay since they will cost you more in the long run.
