The 'description' field in iPhoto?

In iPhoto there is a text field, 'Description'. Many of my photographs are of documents I use the Description field to transcribe the text. With a previous upgrade the contents of this field were not automatically carried over, but the values could be exported and pasted in. Does the new Photos still have the 'Description field; if not, I shall have to employ another photo management system, or keep going with iPhoto until it no longer works.
