I have left my iPad 2 charger in a hotel and will need to wait a few days for its return. Can I use the 30-pin adapter that I still have from my iPhone 3 to charge my iPad?

Yes but charging may be slow if the iPhone power adaptor is the small 5W version. The iPad 2 used a 10W or 12W adaptor.
The iPad may charge faster if connected to the USB port on a computer.
Should be about the same. Specks of USB ports are 5v/1A, which is 5W.
