Your device comes with 90 days of complementary phone support.  Call Applecare and ask them about the warranty dates on the device.  It may not have updated to your purchase date yet.

Also, consider getting Apple Care for the device.  It extends the warranty from 1 year to 3 years, and gives you free phone support for that time.

Was it truly brand new, in a sealed box, with a sealed inner envelope, from an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized seller? If anything less than that, there's the possibility that the unit was ...hmmm... "tested" by someone else, which triggered the start of warranty. Also note that if purchased from a third-party reseller not recognized by Apple, the units they acquired to resell was done in a way that looked like a regular customer purchase and the warranty started running from the date of shipment (which is what happens when you purchase online directly from Apple).
