Q: yosemite contacts missing index letters
Briefly. Got iMac. Couple of years later got iPad. Couple of years later got iPhone.
Never knowingly dabbled in iCloud. In fact I tried to avoid it like the plague. However some things "slipped" into iCloud. Don't know how.
Thought it might be useful to use iCloud so that phone numbers in iMac Contacts could be seen in iPhone. However, at sometime, iCloud Disk turned up.
Result, complete and utter confusion. Different contacts lists with different multiple entries on all 3 systems. I have no idea how what got where. I think I ended up with iCloud Disk on the iMac and vanilla iCloud on the iPad and iPhone, but I'm not sure. I also got the error about a password that I don't remember entering. I decided to trash iCloud as much as possible and start from scratch. I reinstalled Yosemite and reset iPad and iPhone to fresh out of the womb. I am not currently using iCloud, whether fluffy white or Disk. My plan is to build everything on iMac and then gradually turn on iCloud and see what happens.
I have started by manually re-entering my contacts. However, the Index list of alphabetical surnames does not appear. The entries are sorted by surname, but the index isn't there. I can scroll down and find a surname, but I would prefer to be able to jump directly to the "M's", say, like I used to be able to do. I can't find anything about an index in Contacts Preferences.
Anyone know if this is still possible? Or has it gone now that OS X is really IOS with a wig on?
Also, how can I ensure that any old iCloud/iCloud Disk data is completely and utterly destroyed on the servers, or at least won't come back to haunt me once I've got everything tidied up.
If I set up a new Apple ID, do I have to have a new email address?
Thanks in advance.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
