Q: iPod playlist is not updating when iPod plugged to mac

I'll add songs to my playlists on my iPod but when I plug it in to my laptop it's not updating. Like on my iPod it'll show I have 200 songs but that same playlist will only show 150 when I look at it on my Mac. Is there a reason for this?
