It's only five years since I bought the MBP. And "Apple Stopped supporting hardware for it products just because they're not selling it?

Hi,

I have a 17-inch, Mid 2010 MBP.

The internal DVD drive is broken.

I contacted the Apple Support. And the tech tole me that "Apple Does Not Support Any Hardware For the MBP. And what I can do is to get an "external DVD drive".

Your model like mine from 2009 is considered obsolete and parts are no longer available from Apple. You should try searching on Amazon and eBay for a replacement for the internal device or buy an external Firewire or USB optical drive. And, yes, Apple stops supporting models they no longer sell after a specific period of time. In most cases that has been 7 years or when the model appears on the Obsolete list: Vintage and obsolete products listing.

Either you did not understand what you were told or you have misstated it. Apple has not stopped hardware support for MBPs. It has stopped support for your model.

The qualified Apple Authorized Service Providers should be able to replace

the defective optical drive, if you don't have the time or are concerned if a

level of technical skill may not be something you want to deal with.

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider

The iFixit repair guide should give you some ideas on the process; even if

you take it to an authorized repair service. Some of the independent AASP

locations may or may not have a problem installing a new part that you can

buy from some online quality vendor (such as OWC, etc.) Ask them first.

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

I think all of us who have responded feel the same.

Personally speaking, I have a 2012 Mac Mini and MBP. I feel, when IBM Skylakes is out and flourishing and OS X has been replaced with MacOS we will all feel lost. Yep, i know, another weblink. Mac of All Trades has parts and accessories at a reasonable price. They are an Apple Certified Reseller and Refurbisher.

Not necessarily. Apple has been good about transitioning. It would be irresponsible of any company not to stay competitive. As computer technology progresses so will hardware and software. It is good that there are computer companies that maintain old stock of computers, accessories and parts, plus, maintain manufacturers certification. All good things.

Cheers!!
